Chasing Fulfilment
I follow a youtuber, very famous, successful and he has essentially reached the goal he set for himself. He went from small to one of the largest channels on the platform, then went on to branch out into entrepreneurship, and now he has reached financial freedom.
But I now start to hear him speak about fulfilment. He is happy with the journey he has had, and the way he got to where he is. But what he isn’t saying explicitly is that he is now looking for fulfilment, which I don’t think he has gotten enough of from his previous work.
The feeling I get is that he wants to have a legacy, leaving something behind which he feels has contributed to humanity, and that his contribution has pushed our collective knowledge forward.
I have not had his journey. I am not famous, and would like to stay that way. I have reached some success in my previous career as a chef, which I feel was challenging and something I highly enjoyed. I don’t have financial freedom, but I have more than enough to sustain myself, and live a comfortable life. I feel that I don’t need to distract myself with the very tempting direction of financial freedom, and that my direction should rather be fulfilment.
Fulfilment for me means working on something which contributes to humanity. Something which benefits many, and creates an out sized impact for a single person.
